Fota Wildlife Park from Dublin

Fota Wildlife Park is easily accessible with just two very comfortable trains from Dublin and it could be your best daytrip from the city centre if you timed it right.

I took the train for my convenience. There’s direct intercity trains to Cork from Dublin Heuston station, then transfer into a commuter train in Cork to Fota. The journey will take less than 3 hours maybe a few more minutes for the transfer in Cork.

The park is well put together, making it easy for anyone to walk as much as they want. There’s also a shuttle train that takes you from one end to another if you don’t feel like walking at some point.

Fota Wildlife park isn’t just a zoo, its a conservation project. They have a breeding programmes for endangered species and prioritise wildlife education.
We noticed that all animals have hiding spots within their enclosures if they dont want to be seen.

There are polite noticeboards everywhere asking visitors not to tap on the glasses, not to feed the animals or get close to free roaming ones. Yeah, there’s wallabies, kangaroos, rabbits and peacocks wandering freely because they own the place!
